Ashton Charles McClelland currently serving as Director of Sports Marketing at Alabama State University. Ashton leads game day operations across all athletic programs, creating high-energy environments that strengthen the university’s brand and deepen community connection.

A graduate of Texas Southern University, Ashton earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing and went on to receive a Master of Business Administration from Alabama State University. His academic achievements include graduating cum laude and earning recognition as an MBA honors student, reflecting both his dedication and discipline in the classroom.

Ashton’s professional journey includes impactful roles within the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), where he served as both an Accounting Intern and later Assistant Director of Operations. In these roles, he contributed to budgeting over $2.5 million, coordinated championship logistics, and worked closely with sponsors to execute high-level events. His experience laid a strong foundation in both the business and operational sides of collegiate athletics.

In his current role, Ashton has secured key community partnerships with organizations such as Montgomery Public Schools, Selma Public Schools, and the Montgomery Biscuits. He also played a pivotal role in helping secure a $200,000 donation to develop a digital creative suite on campus. Under his leadership, attendance for football and basketball increased by 10%, including setting an all-time basketball attendance record of 7,500 fans.

A former captain of the Texas Southern men’s basketball team and a participant in the 2021 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, along with the NCAA Career in Sports Forum. Ashton brings a student-athlete perspective to his work, allowing him to authentically connect with and advocate for those he serves. Known for his leadership, organization, and creative vision, Ashton continues to make a lasting impact in collegiate athletics through innovation, collaboration, and a commitment to excellence.
