Reggie Barlow Handles the Extras of Being the Head Coach

Head Coach Reggie Barlow was able to fit in practice on a busy Wednesday.
Team meetings, check. Staff meetings, check. On-campus meetings, check. Live on-air television interview, check. Television production teleconference, check. Live on-air radio interview, check. Oh yea, practice, check.

Today was not an ordinary day in the life of Alabama State University Head Coach Reggie Barlow. With the season-opener just three days away a lot of the day was spent on other things that dealt with the game against Jacksonville State, but not on the game itself.

With the "extras" that come with being the head coach, it is a wonder Coach Barlow had enough time to prepare for practice and keep his mind on the Gamecocks, but he was able to do just that.

"I have spent extra time doing things today," Barlow said. "I was able to get in earlier this morning, because I knew I would be doing all of this today. I was able to watch more film and then I was able to get the practice script together for today."

Even after as hectic as the day has been, it will not be over even after practice as the head coach runs off to another two radio interviews within 30 minutes of each other.

"It comes with the territory and this is an exciting week for the football teams and the players," Barlow said. "It is a great way to start the year, at home against a top-notch in-state team like Jacksonville State; to be in our stadium and be in front of a live television audience is great for Alabama State and our program. I just have to put in the extra time and make it happen."

ASU will be back on the field at Hornets Stadium for their final practice of the week tomorrow (Thursday) at 11 a.m.
