The Alabama State 2012-13 women's basketball team completed another week of practice in the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.
After finishing 14-14 (SWAC 11-7) last year the Lady Hornets led by Junior center
Quentori Alford who was selected to the preseason Southwestern Athletic All Conference Second Team, while the Lady Hornets predicted to finish fourth they are looking forward to a new season.
“I am very pleased with the way practices have been going these past few weeks,”
Freda Freeman-Jackson said. “We have a few preseason injuries right now and we hope to keep the other girls healthy to get us through the season. We have been focusing on getting our responsibilities on defense down as far as offense we are ahead of the game. It's been hard to get the girls focused on the defensive end of the ball.”
“We are having a hard time getting the girls to understand that in order for us to win we are going to have to play defense. With the new combination of girls we have an excellent blend, but our older players are going to have to step up and communicate more as far as on defense. We need to get our girls to understand that defense wins championships and we have to play defense to get there. We must play on both ends of the floor.”
The ladies will take off a couple of days to recoup as they will continue later on in the week to prepare for their season opener.
Fans will have an opportunity to see the Lady Hornets in action against cross town foe Faulkner with an exhibition game on Nov. 8 at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
