ASU Men's and Women's Tennis Continue Their Quest Toward Opening Day

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Alabama State men's and women's teams continue their quest toward opening day against Mercer University Friday, Feb. 3 in Columbus, Ga. at noon.

After a thirty minute stretch and warm-up, the teams take the court for some singles and doubles practice each day. Practice has been intense for both teams as they look to improve on their 2011 performances.

“Basically, we've been trying to get them mentally and physically ready for opening day,” ASU head coach Christiansz Anuk said. “We still aren't where we need to be by far, but we'll still have them compete at high level every time they step on the court.”

The coaching staff was hired at ASU in August and got a late start on recruiting for the 2012 season. They were able to sign two mid-year signees for the men's team which gives them an opportunity to compete with a full team. They were not as lucky on the women's side, as they were only able to bring in one mid-year signee and will begin the season with five players.
