Complete Round 2 Results
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – Despite both improving upon their first round performances, the Alabama State University golf teams were unable to move up in the team standings following Saturday's second round action of the PGA Minority Collegiate Championship at the PGA Golf Club.
The Lady Hornets trimmed 22 strokes off their first round score shooting a 334 on day two and remaining in fifth-place with a tournament total of 690. The ASU men's squad was two shots better Saturday finishing with a 307 to maintain its sixth-place standing with a 36-hole score of 616.
Freshman standout Aileen Meredith continues to pace the women's team after carding a second round 76. Meredith is currently sixth in the individual medalist competition at 151.
Danielle Robinson, who posted 80 on Saturday, is also in the Top 20 ranking 18th at 166.
Taaj Hubbard returned to the lineup after not completing her round Friday and shot an 86.
Brittanie Brooks (92) and
D'Andrielle Robinson (101) rounded out the list of ASU competitors.
Bethune-Cookman owns a 35 shot lead in the team competition finishing the first two days with a score of 590. Texas-Pan American is second at 625 followed by Hampton at 628. UTPA's Kim Wong continues to lead the medalist competition with at 141.
On the men's side, senior
Kyle Demeester carded the low round of the day for ASU shooting a 76 and currently is tied for 20th at 152 in the individual standings.
Freshman Sam Strachan remains the top overall performer for Bama State ranking tied for 16th at 151 following Saturday's round of 77. Sophomore
John Montgomery also tallied a 77 on day two and owns a 36-hole total of 155.
Sophomore Greg Keafer made the biggest improvement for ASU cutting 15 shots off his opening round performance. Keafer shot a 77 Saturday after struggling with a 92 on day one. Freshman Michael Stringfellow finished with an 85 (166) to round out the Hornet lineup.
Texas-Pan American saw its lead trimmed to just three strokes in the team competition, finishing the round with a two-day total of 581. Tennessee State is second at 584 followed by Jackson State at 596. TSU's Chris Seibel fired a six-under-par 66 to vault to the top of the individual medalist standings at 137.
Tournament action at the PGA Minority Championship concludes for both ASU teams with Sunday's final round of 18 holes.
