Final Results
MARIETTA, Ga. – The Alabama State University women's golf team finished fifth after carding a 353 Sunday in the only round of play for the Women's Collegiate Golf Classic.
The event, held at the par 71, 5,807-yard Marietta City Club, was originally scheduled for 36 holes of play Saturday and Sunday. However, heavy rains and strong winds Saturday forced the cancellation of the opening round and turned the tournament into an 18-hole event.
A trio of Lady Hornets posted Top 20 finishes at the event led by freshman Aileen Meredith in a tie for 16th after firing an 86 on Sunday.
Danielle Robinson finished tied for 18th at 87 while
Brittanie Brooks posted an 89 earning a tie for 20th.
The remainder of the ASU lineup for the event included Taaj Hubbard in 25th with a 91 and
D'Andrielle Robinson in 35th-place (105).
Hampton University claimed the team title for a second consecutive year following a round of 319, edging runner-up Bethune-Cookman (322) by three strokes. South Carolina State finished third at 329 followed by Jackson State (344), ASU, Texas Southern (387), Grambling State (432), Benedict College (479) and Spellman College (490). Hampton's Nicole West and Honesty Biggers of SCSU shared the individual medalist title after carding matching rounds of 76.
The Lady Hornets conclude their 2009-10 season May 6-9 at the PGA Minority Collegiate Championship in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
