ALEXANDRIA, La. – Alabama State University tennis standout Denys Alyeksyeyev was named the 2010 Southwestern Athletic Conference Player of the Year for men's tennis as officially announced by the league office Thursday night.

Alyeksyeyev, a senior from Luiv, Ukraine, garnered the award after posting a perfect 5-0 record at the No.1 singles position for the Hornets during conference play. In addition, Alyeksyeyev was selected an All-SWAC first team singles performer.

His strong performance helped ASU make a return to this year's SWAC Championship Tournament, where they meet Grambling State in the opening round Friday afternoon.
