PRATTVILLE, Ala. – The Alabama State University women’s golf team is fifth after firing an opening round 362 Monday in the Huntingdon Hawk Invitational.
The Lady Hornets are just six strokes out of third heading into the final round at the event being played at the par 72, 5,816-yard layout of the Prattville Country Club.
Freshman Aileen Meredith led the way for ASU carding a first-round 82 to end the day in a tie for fifth.
Other golfers competing for the Lady Hornets at the event included Brittanie Brooks with a 92 (17th), Taaj Hubbard 93 (18th), Danielle Robinson 95 (T-20th) and D’Andrielle Robinson 109 (33rd).
Birmingham Southern leads the team competition following their opening round 333 with West Georgia sitting in second at 342. Piedmont College is third at 356 followed by Tennessee State (359), Alabama State, Huntingdon College (382) and Spellman College (545). The BSC duo of Ashley Lovell and Jennifer Commander share the individual medalist lead after posting rounds of 78.
Tournament action at the Huntingdon Hawk Invitational concludes Tuesday with a final round of 18 holes. Following this event, ASU turns its attention to the SWAC Championship Tournament Apr. 19-20 in Alexandria, La.
