ALEXANDRIA, La. – Led by individual medalist performances from
Kyle Demeester and Aileen Meredith, the Alabama State University men's and women's golf teams captured the team titles Tuesday at the SWAC Preview Tournament hosted by Grambling State.
Demeester, a senior at ASU, posted a two-day total of 151 (69-82) to finish atop the men's individual leaderboard while Meredith, a freshman, carded a tournament score of 153 (71-82) en route to the women's individual crown.
The ASU men's team earned the tournament victory with rounds of 307-329=636. The Lady Hornets carded a 36-hole finish of 702 (340-262) in winning the women's championship.
In addition to strong play from Demeester and Meredith, Bama State had three other golfers earn all-tournament honors including
John Montgomery on the men's side and
Danielle Robinson and Taaj Hubbard for the women.
The Hornets next return to tournament action on Apr. 4-6 at the Big Blue Intercollegiate in Spring Hill, Tenn. The next tournament appearance for the Lady Hornets will be at the Huntingdon Hawk Spring Invitational on Apr. 11-13 in Prattville, Ala.
