Inclement Weather Shortens Competition for ASU Track & Field Teams

The Hornets and Lady Hornets Post More Top Performances
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Despite wintery weather conditions shortening the 2010 Dick Taylor Carolina Classic to a single day of competition, the Alabama State University track and field teams still posted several solid performances at the event hosted by the University of North Carolina in the Eddie Smith Fieldhouse.

Tokeyah Jones, Dawn Hemanes and Jamie Brooks led the way for the Lady Hornets. The trio all qualified for the finals of the 60m dash with Jones earning a third-place finish with a time of 7.65. Hemanes was seventh (7.73) and Brookes finished 10th (7.81).

Whitney Austin raced to a sixth-place showing in the 1000m with a time of 3:13.82. In the field events, Shexnieavia Bryant collected a third-place finish in the weight throw following a toss of 55’00.75”.

On the men’s side, Charles Flewellen (2:31.81) and Christopher Duncan (2:32.11) finished second and third, respectively, in the 1000m. Senior Robert Gunn posted a second-place finish in the mile run with a time of 4:22.52.

Belden Ferguson and Jeffery Adams both qualified for the finals in the 60m hurdles with Ferguson clocking an 8.33 third-place mark and Adams finishing seventh at 8.44.

The ASU track and field teams continue their indoor season action Saturday at the TSU Invitational in Nashville, Tenn.
