Tiffany Foster scored 19 points and pulled down eight rebounds and Hannah Kador added 10 points and collected four steals leading Southern University to a 55-39 victory over Alabama State in women’s basketball action Monday evening at the Mini-Dome.

The Jags improved to 12-6 overall and 6-2 in the SWAC with the victory, while Alabama State fell to 6-10 overall and 3-4 in the SWAC. 

Alabama State was led by junior Tanika Jackson and freshman guard Qourtni Fambro with 10 points apiece.  Fambro scored seven of her points in the second half during a late ASU rally.

The Lady Hornets struggled with poor shooting throughout the game.  ASU went 5-24 from the field in the first half and shot just 16-51 (.314) for the game.

ASU also committed 19 turnovers in the game.  Southern had 11 steals as a team compared to just seven by Alabama State. 

Foster scored eight points in an early Southern run as the Lady Jags grabbed the early momentum.  The Lady Hornets were down by 13 ending the first half 26-13.

Southern went up by as many as 21 points before ASU made a terrific run at the close of the second half.

The two teams traded baskets during the final minutes of play.  A late jumper by ASU’s Jakayla Hill closed out the game giving Southern a 55-39 victory.

The Lady Hornets will return home to host the two Texas teams, Texas Southern and Prairie View next weekend.  The first game features Texas Southern tipping off at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
