BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Alabama State University men's golf team finished 10th at the 2009 Birmingham-Southern Fall Shootout held Monday and Tuesday at the Oxmoor Valley Golf Course.
The Hornets posted a 54-hole total of 939 (303-317-319) en route to their Top 10 finish. Freshman Sam Strachan was ASU's top finisher for the second consecutive event earning a tie for 15th place at 229 (74-81-74).
Sophomore
John Montgomery fired the team's low score of the tournament with his opening round 73 Monday morning and finished tied for 24th at 231 (73-77-81).
Other golfers competing for ASU included senior
Kyle Demeester, tied for 35th (77-76-80=233); senior
Brendan Prouse, tied for 58th (80-83-84=247); and freshman Michael Stringfellow in 65th place at 251 (79-83-89).
Huntingdon College (893) edged tournament host Birmingham-Southern (898) by five shots to capture the team championship. Rhodes College finished third at 901 with Lee University (905) and LaGrange College (912) rounding out the Top Five squads.
William Carey University's Matt Hungerman earned the individual medalist honor with a three-round tally of 218.
ASU next returns to tournament action Oct. 11-13 at the Louisiana SWAC Open in Monroe, La.
