Aileen Meredith birdied the first playoff hole Tuesday to capture the individual medalist title at the season-opening ASU Fall Classic held at Lagoon Park Golf Course. The ASU women's golf team also earned runner-up honors in the team competition.

The Lady Hornets, who posted rounds of 340-342=682, also had two other linksters earn Top 10 finishes as
Danielle Robinson was fourth (81-84=165) and
Brittanie Brooks was eighth (85-86=171).
Spring Hill College won the team championship with a two-day score 665. Tennessee State finished third at 733 followed by Faulkner (751), Texas Southern (763) and Savannah State (876).
“Aileen is a really solid player that is bringing a new attitude to our golf program,” said ASU head coach
Gary Grandison. “It is really impressive for her to win her first collegiate event. It was a great accomplishment for our women's team to be in contention for the championship. We left some shots out on the course, but I was proud of how we played in this first tournament.”
Alabama State's next tournament action comes Oct. 4-6 at the Lousiana SWAC Open in Monroe, La.
