Women's Soccer Opens Fall Practice
WSOC coach Jodie Smith talks to the team
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Under the direction of third-year head coach Jodie Smith, the Alabama State women’s soccer team officially got its 2009 training camp underway Thursday at Hornets Stadium.

Smith, who guided the Lady Hornets to the SWAC tournament last season for just the second time in program history, put his group of seven returning players and six newcomers through the paces of a two-hour opening practice session.

“It was definitely exciting to get back on the field,” said Smith. “We got out bright and early and did some conditioning. We also wanted to just give the girls a chance to play so that we could see what we have. It was great to practice on the new turf field for the first time.”

The Lady Hornets will continue training camp until classes begin on Aug. 19. ASU opens the season with a two-game road trip on Aug. 28-30 with games against Charleston Southern and The Citadel. The home opener is scheduled for Sept. 4 against Tennessee Tech.
