Bama State Wraps Up Track Season at NCAA Regional

ASU sent 10 athletes to the NCAA Mideast Regional
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Alabama State University men's and women's track teams closed their 2009 outdoor seasons over the weekend at the NCAA Mideast Regional.

On Friday, freshman sprinter Tokeyah Jones paced the Hornets with an 11th-place finish in the 100-meter dash, running a time of 11.66.

Sophomores Jonathan Franklin and Delorean Peek competed in the 400-meter dash with Franklin finishing 13th in a time of 47.64. Peek placed 19th with a time of 48.16.

Junior Robert Gunn ran a 15:22.81 on his way to finishing 19th in the 5,000-meter run.

The ASU women's 4x100-meter relay team (Jones, Jamie Brooks, Asha Tavernier, Dawn Hemanes) suffered a disappointing disqualification during its preliminary race while women's thrower Shexnievia Bryant participated in the hammer throw but did not record a distance.

In Saturday's competition, the ASU men's 4x400-meter relay squad (Franklin, Peek, Vincent Butler, Timothy Edwards) earned a 16th-place finish with a time of 3:10.07.

The top five individual event finishers and the top three relay finishers at the Mideast Regional advanced to the NCAA Championship to be held June 10-13 in Fayetteville, Ark.
