ASU Women's Basketball Signs Six to the Hoop Squad
Coach Jackson

Montgomery -- Alabama State University head women’s basketball coach Freda Freeman-Jackson announced the addition of six newcomers to the Lady Hornets program for the 2009-10 campaign.

The new signees include Erica Henderson, Artajah Collins, Yahindra Edwards, Millicent Jones, Angelese Hunter and Quortni Fambro.

The 2009-10 newcomer class features four freshmen, one sophomore and a junior college transfer.

“With this recruiting class I feel that we have addressed our needs as far as size and quickness,” said Freeman-Jackson. “We are going to have more depth with our shooters and a little more experience. I definitely feel as though we are going to be more athletic and be able to do more with the guard spot.”

The Lady Hornets finished the 2008-09 season with a 14-16 overall mark and an 11-7 record in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. ASU tied with Southern University for second place in the regular season SWAC standings before falling to Mississippi Valley State in the opening round of the conference tournament.

ASU returns 12 players from last season but must fill the voids left by the departure of guards Capri Taylor, L’Tiesha Holloway, Essence Butler and forward Britney Harris.
