Bama State Baseball Drops Season Finale at Georgia State

ATLANTA — The Alabama State University baseball team closed out its 2009 schedule with a doubleheader loss at Georgia State on Friday. GSU swept the twinbill by the scores of 11-8 and 11-1.

The Hornets finished the season at 15-28 while the Panthers improved to 35-20 after posting the sweep on Friday.

The two squads traded the lead early in game one. ASU scored three runs in the top of the first, but GSU answered with four in the bottom half of the frame. The Hornets scored a pair of runs in the second to regain the lead and then pushed further ahead with three more runs in the fourth to take an 8-6 advantage.

Georgia State rallied in the fifth plating five runs to regain the lead for good.

Alabama State outhit Georgia State 10-7 in the game but left eight runners stranded. All nine Hornet starters recorded a hit in the contest with Ronald James Jr., tallying a pair of hits and two RBIs to pace the ASU offense.

In the second game, the Panthers jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead before putting the game away with seven runs in the fifth inning.

Ray Pickering Jr., pounded out three of the four hits that Bama State mustered against a collection of seven GSU pitchers. Pickering also drove in the lone ASU score in the third inning.
