John Montgomery Opens Play at NCAA Golf Regional

ALVATON, Ky. —Alabama State University freshman golfer John Montgomery carded an opening round 85 at the 2009 NCAA Division I Central Regional on Thursday. The event is being played at the par 72, 7,372-yard Club at Olde Stone.

Montgomery posted a 43 over the front nine including a birdie on the par four fifth hole. He closed with a 42 on the back nine including par on five of his last seven holes.

The native of Whitaker, Pa., is currently tied for 71st in the individual medalist competition with 36 holes of play remaining. The University of Washington’s Nick Taylor leads medalist play following a five-under-par 67 on Thursday.

Montgomery tees off in the second round on Friday from hole 10 at 8:30 a.m.
