Track and Field Enjoys Success at War Eagle Invitational

AUBURN -- Alabama State University's track captured 16 Top 10 finishes in the War Eagle Invitational.
In the women’s 100-meter dash, Dawn Hemanes finished sixth with an 11.85 time. She also collected the tenth spot in the 200-meter dash with a 24.59 time. Tokeyah Jones had a 24.12 time to grab sixth place in the 200 meter.
Other finishers included:
-- Lutrisha Altidor ran a 55.79 400-meter dash to earn a fifth-place finish.
-- Breana Kelly placed tenth in the 1,500-meter run.
-- Jewell Wells was the only Lady Hornet to place third in any event. She posted the time of 11:51 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
-- Clarissa Johnson positioned herself in ninth place in the 400 meter hurdles.
-- The Lady Hornets' 4x100 meter relay team finished fourth.
In the field events:
-- Shexnieavia Bryant was ninth place in the shot put with a throw of 12.43 and sixth in the discus throw with 43.20 meter throw.
The men's track team had high finishes in the 400-meter dash, 800-meter run, 1,500-meter run, 5,000-meter run, 3,000-meter steeplechase, the 4x100 and -4x400 meter relays.
-- Sophomore Jonathan Franklin had a time of 47.63 in the 400-meter dash.
-- Sophomore Christopher Duncan posted a time of 1:52.37 in the 800-meter run.
-- Junior Robert Gunn won the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:43.82. He also placed fourth in the 1,500.
-- Junior Michael Berry finished seventh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with the time of 10:13.
-- The men’s 4x100 relay team placed eighth with a time of 41.92 and finished just eight seconds behind winner Florida in the 4X400 relay with a time of 3:08.
ASU's track teams return to action May 1-3 when they travel to Houston for the outdoor SWAC Championship on the campus of Texas Southern University.
