Hornets Claim Second at SWAC Men's Golf Championship
ASU golfer blasts out of the sand
ALEXANDRIA, La. --  Alabama State University golfer John Montgomery captured the individual medalist title while leading the Hornets to a second-place finish at the SWAC men’s golf championship held at the Links on the Bayou Golf Course.

Montgomery, who finished with a tournament total of 216 including a final round three-under-par 69 on Wednesday, earned the individual championship by one stroke over Brett Benson of Jackson State. In addition, Montgomery earned low freshman honors along with garnering first-team All-SWAC accolades.

As a team, ASU carded a final round 304 to finish with a 54-hole score of 893. The Hornets tallied program bests for 18-hole (294), 36-hole (589) and 54-hole totals.

Jackson State rallied from 11 shots behind to capture its second consecutive team championship with a score of 890. JSU boasted a tournament best round of 290 on the final day.

ASU’s Kyle Demester also earned first-team All-SWAC honors after posting a fourth-place finish at 219. The Hornets’ Todd Hutcheson earned second-team All-SWAC honors with a 10th-place showing of 229. ASU's Gregory Keafer (233) and Brendan Prouse (235) finished 12th and 13th, respectively.
