Birmingham, AL-The Alabama State University men’s and women’s track teams marked the beginning of the outdoor track season with stellar performances at the Southern Invitational hosted by Birmingham-Southern.

The women’s team claimed first place, finishing 56 points better than the second-place team. Leading the Lady Hornets was sophomore Lutrica Altidor, who had strong showings in the 400-meter and 200-meter events and powered the first leg of the 4X4 relay team, which finished first.

The men’s team finished a close second to Troy. Junior Robert Gunn accomplished his personal best in the 5K run with a time of 15:11.

“We’re looking forward to the remainder of the outdoor season,” said head coach Ritchie Beene.
