Men's Golf Closes Fall Season with 2nd Place Finish

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Alabama State University men’s golf team finished second in the Division I competition and fourth overall at the Savannah State Tiger Fall Invitational. The event marked the conclusion of the Hornets fall season.
ASU posted a 36-hole score of 640 (320-320) on the par 71, 6,650-yard layout. Freshman Sam Strachan paced the Hornets at the event finishing tied for sixth at 154 (80-74). Sophomore teammate John Montgomery joined him in the Top 20 with a 19th-place showing at 160 (76-84).
Senior Kyle Demeester finished tied for 21st (82-79=161) followed by senior Brendan Prouse (83-83=168) and freshman Michael Stringfellow (82-86=168), who both tied for 30th.
Virginia State earned the overall team title with a score of 622, while Bethune Cookman was second at 628 claiming the Division I crown. Morehouse finished third at 639 followed by Alabama State, Winston-Salem State (641), Florida A&M (653), Hampton (655), Savannah State (656), Fayetteville State (669), North Carolina Central (672), Alabama A&M (687) and St. Augustine’s College (842). Bethune Cookman’s Willie Mack captured the individual medalist crown with a two-round total of 143.
The Hornets will take the winter off before returning to competition on Feb. 22-24 at the Wynlakes “Wynter” Nationals in Montgomery.
