A Close Finish Places ASU Volleyball In the Win Column

Montgomery, Ala.-- The Alabama State University Lady Hornets defeated Savannah State 3-2 (25-13, 19-25, 20-25, 25-17, 25-7) Friday night in a non-conference match at Lockhart Gymnasium in front of a crowd of 226.

The Lady Hornets rallied to earn their fifth win of the season.

ASU was led by senior Jessica Holt, who produced a team-best 14 kills, one service ace and two blocks. Juniors Kelsye Hall and Sierra Caudle both tallied nine kills apiece. Hall also posted nine assists, three service aces, 10 digs and one block.

Senior Anna Meinert had 33 assists, eight kills, three service aces, six digs and three blocks in the victory.

Defensively, Roselande Corneille registered 14 digs. Teammate Brena Wheeler was explosive on the net with six blocks (four unassisted) and six kills.

The Lady Hornets will be on the road next week when they travel to North Carolina to take on Winston-Salem State and to Virginia to face Norfolk State before ending the week in Baton Rouge, La., to play in the Southern University Invitational.
