ASU to Host 14th Annual President's Golf Classic

Alabama State University will host the 14th Annual President's Golf Classic on July 12, 2008, on The Legislator Course of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Prattville, Ala. Tournament activities begin at 7 a.m. with registration. Tee off, shotgun start/scramble format will occur promptly at 8:00 a.m.

The tournament is a two-person scramble format. The best shot is selected, and players will hit from that position. Any ties for trophy winners will be determined by score cards, starting from the 18th hole and going back. Mulligans may be purchased for $5 each during registration but may be used on tees or fairways only.

Prizes will be awarded to teams for Low Gross (1st and 2nd place) in up to three flights: President's Champion Flight, C. C. Baker First Flight and James Shannon Second Flight. Individual prizes will also be awarded for closest to the pin, longest drive for men and women, best dressed golfer and oldest golfer. Immediately following the tournament, this fun-filled day culminates with the 19th Hole Celebration on the back lawn of the President's Home on the campus of ASU, with a buffet luncheon, awards presentation and door prizes (in case of inclement weather it will be moved to the ASU Acadome Banquet Room).

Registration is $125 per person, which includes green fee, cart rental, course refreshments, premium gift package, 19th Hole dinner and door prizes. The registration deadline is July 7, 2008.

A series of event sponsorship opportunities have also been developed to enhance the tournament. There are five levels of sponsorships including Platinum ($10,000), Gold ($5,000), Silver ($1,500), Black ($500), and Champion ($300). Sponsorship descriptions are as follows:

PLATINUM SPONSOR $10,000

The President's Golf Classic began in 1995 after the inauguration of ASU's 10th president, Dr. William H. Harris. The Classic has attracted golfers from as far as Texas, Florida and Michigan for a day of competition and camaraderie. The first Classic was held at Kolomi Golf Course. In 1999, the tournament moved to the Montgomery National Gold Course, and in 2001, The President's Annual Golf Classic moved to the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. A Senior Flight was added in 2002 for players 65 years and older.
